CWPの概要

東京大学教養学部教養教育開発機構クリティカル・ライティング・プログラム(CWP)はアカデミックライティングのカリキュラム開発を目的に平成17年度に活動を開始した。以下の活動に取り組んでいる。

前期課程学生を対象に英語アカデミックライティングコースの開講（ポール・ロシター＋東京大学教養学部英語部会著『First Moves: An Introduction to Academic Writing in English』を教科書として採用）
大学院生TA（ティーチング・アシスタント）を対象としたチュートリアルおよびライティング指導
英語アカデミックライティングでとくに日本人が苦手とする文法事項に焦点をあてた授業用モデュールの開発

この他、CWPでは2008年4月から始まったALESSプログラムなどで理科系学生向けアカデミックライティング教授法の開発ならびに日本語アカデミックライティングへ向けた取り組みも検討中である。

Outline of CWP

The Critical Writing Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tokyo was established in 2005 to create an innovative curriculum for academic writing and critical thinking. The activities of the program include:

Intensive writing courses for first- and second-year undergraduate students using the textbook First Moves: An Introduction to Academic Writing in English by Paul Rossiter and Department of English, The University of Tokyo, Komaba
The rigorous training of graduate-student teaching assistants in writing and tutoring skills
The development of new learning modules that focus on language issues of particular importance to students whose first language is Japanese

One of CWP's main interests is the teaching of academic writing to science and engineering students, particularly through the Active Learning of English for Science Students (ALESS) program begun in April 2008. We are also exploring educational issues related to academic writing in Japanese.
