英語アカデミック・ライティング・チュートリアル

現在CWPが開発中のアカデミック・ライティング・カリキュラムの特色のひとつに、前期課程学生に対する大学院生ティーチング・アシスタント(TA)によるチュートリアルがある。チュートリアル中のTAと受講生

CWPのパイロット授業を受講する学生はTAから個別指導またはグループ指導を受け、課題論文の初稿について構成、焦点、言葉の使い方を相談する。このようなチュートリアルを通じて、学生は英語のアカデミック・ライティング・スキルを身につけ、また自信をもって英語で学術論文を執筆できるようになる。指導する側のTAもまたCWP教員から綿密な指導を受け、将来の論文執筆に役立つ知識と教授経験を身につけることができる。

大学院アカデミック・ライティング教育コース

CWPは総合文化研究科言語情報科学専攻と共同で、2007 年度4月より、「Teaching and Tutoring English Academic Writing」と題する大学院コース（修士・博士課程共通）を開講する。本コースは、将来大学レベルの英語教育に携わることを希望する学生を対象に、英語アカデミック・ライティング教授法を理論と実戦の両面から扱う。受講者は前期課程学生に実際にチュートリアルを行い、ライティング教育を体験することが要求される。実践的かつ専門的な英語アカデミック・ライティング教育を通じて、受講者自身も高度な英文アカデミック・ライティング能力を習得することを目標とする。

Tutoring and Teacher Training

Writing tutorials

A key component of the writing curriculum being developed by the Critical Writing Program is the system of tutorials offered to undergraduate writing students by graduate student teaching assistants. A CWP TA meets with a writing student

Students enrolled in CWP pilot classes meet one-on-one or in small groups with TAs to discuss the organization, focus, and language usage in the first drafts of their homework papers. Through the tutorials, the writing students gain skills and confidence in the process of writing academic prose in English. The TAs, who are closely mentored by CWP faculty, acquire knowledge and teaching experience that will be valuable in their future careers.

Graduate course in writing education

Beginning in April 2007, CWP is offering a graduate course titled "Teaching and tutoring English academic writing." Taught in cooperation with the Department of Language and Information Sciences and open to master's and doctoral students from throughout the university, the course provides an overview of the theory and practice of English academic writing education. A key component of the course is "hands-on" teaching experience in which the graduate students give tutorials to undergraduate writers. Besides providing training and teaching practice to graduate students who may teach university-level English in the future, the course also allows them to learn more about academic writing in English and to refine their own writing practices.
